Gun Violence + Public Safety

Sarah grew up in a family of hunters and respects the rights enshrined in our Constitution. But Americans also have the right to feel safe at schools, grocery stores, concerts, bars, and places of worship. She is outraged that our leaders in Washington don’t have the backbone to take on the gun lobby and pass common-sense gun safety legislation.

As the mother of a two-year-old, Sarah knows the fear that grips parents when they drop their kids off at school and worry if they’ll come home safe. She refuses to accept this as the status quo and believes that our kids should be able to go to school without the fear of being lost to gun violence.

In the Senate, Sarah will support common-sense gun safety legislation like universal background checks, red flag laws, and restoring an assault weapons ban. The gun lobby will not have its grip on Sarah in the Senate, as it does on Senate Republicans.

Sarah believes that to reduce crime and keep our communities safe, we must fund police departments and social services — providing them with the resources they need for investing in officer training, hiring social workers, building wrap-around services, and strengthening community violence interventions. Wisconsinites deserve to feel safe in their homes and neighborhoods, and they deserve a police force that works for them.

MOMS DEMAND ACTION GUN SENSE CANDIDATE

The Gun Sense Candidate distinction is not an endorsement from Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America or Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund. Instead, it is a signal to supporters that Sarah Godlewski advocates for gun violence prevention and will govern with gun safety in mind, if elected.
